In our quest to support exceptional founders effecting transformative change in our healthcare system, we recognize and welcome the need for a partnership with “the system.” Getting it right requires a deep understanding of the industry’s esoteric nuances and non-intuitive laws of physics, as well as hands-on experience running within it. Will’s areas of expertise coincide with multiple megatrends driving the evolution of our health care system: value-based care, Medicare and Medicaid, drug benefits, drug adherence and affordability, and health care policy. He has led teams across the industry, including CMMI, where he served as Director of Assessment, helping design the first value-based payment models, and CVS Health, where he designed partnerships between retail, pharmacy, clinics and health systems at risk. He also served as CMO of UPMC Health Plan and most recently led clinical operations, primary care and government affairs as CMO and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Humana. In addition to this experience at leading institutions, he has been an academic researcher, practicing physician and startup consultant.
Will is one of the few in healthcare who has successfully bridged the interface between big business, government and newcomers. Having known Will for over a decade, I know, as do everyone who has worked with him, that he brings incredible energy, thoughtfulness and pragmatic optimism to the field of play.
