Sesame Workshop and Quest Diagnostics come together to address health and wellness inequalities with resources that connect parents and caregivers
NEW YORK, October 27, 2022 / PRNewswire / – Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Street of sesame reaching 156 million children in more than 150 countries, and Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX), the world’s leading provider of diagnostic information services, today announced a new national program to address health and well-being inequalities among young children. , particularly in – income, rural and marginalized communities.
The pandemic has had far-reaching and persistent effects on children’s health, with many routine health checks and preventives missing. Preventive health care for children is critical to addressing physical, mental and emotional conditions and is essential for providing routine vaccinations, monitoring developmental milestones, treating identified health problems, and providing support for families. According to a recent public health report, missed visits among children under the age of 5 were more common among low-income, black and Latino families than higher-income and white families. The program’s English and Spanish language resources are designed to connect and support parents and caregivers as partners in child care.
New research from Sesame Workshop points to the need for active and supportive ‘healthy teams’ to promote the well-being of young children, a care circle that includes parents, culturally competent health workers and other caring adults. The initiative aims to reduce disparities by highlighting the unique strengths of each family and community; develop a common language around health and well-being and provide easy-to-understand resources; and foster strong partnerships between families, health care professionals and other trusted individuals so that they can work together to make informed health-related decisions for each child.
“Sesame Workshop and Quest can promote positive outcomes for children and affirm the health and well-being of families by supporting equitable and culturally competent practices,” he said Jeanette Betancourt, Senior Vice President of US Social Impact at Sesame Workshop. “Together, we are creating strategies and messages around preventative and daily health practices, building health literacy and addressing rising children’s food insecurity to reduce health inequalities by empowering parents, health professionals and providers who serve “.
Quest is partnering with Sesame Workshop as part of Quest for Health Equity (Q4HE), a multi-year program focused on providing a combination of testing services, educational programs and donated funding to support initiatives that work to bridge the gap in community health disparities. disadvantaged in the United States
“We are excited to support the launch of this important program to help reduce health inequalities,” he said Ruth Clements, Vice President and General Manager of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at Quest Diagnostics and leader of Quest for Health Equity. “This collaboration with Sesame Workshop will create a strong network dedicated to supporting and improving health and wellbeing outcomes for children in resource-constrained communities and will enable parents to become strong advocates for their families.”
