Use of Evidence-Based Virtual Platform Will Enhance Mental Health Care Experience for Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Members

The COVID-19 pandemic and other global events have highlighted the need for increased access to mental health care. In the Massachusetts31.4 percent of adults reported symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder in 2021, while the share of adults in Massachusetts with any mental illness was 21.1% in 2018-2019. Additionally, America is currently facing a national shortage of mental health professionals. Percentage of mental health professional need met Massachusetts is 32.2%, slightly above the national average of 28.1%. (KFF extension – Kaiser Family Foundation).
