LIMA DEL NORD – JoAnn M. Veauthier slipped away peacefully on Friday June 10, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with COPD. He was 78 years old.
JoAnn was born on April 27, 1944 in Youngstown and was the third daughter of Michael and Helen Janci.
She lived her life in the Youngstown area and proudly graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School (1961), where she took great pride in playing the clarinet in the marching band. She played bowling with her friends in her youth and met her love of her life, Nick, at Struthers’ Holiday Bowl.
JoAnn and Nick got married on July 23, 1966 in the Catholic Church of St. Stanislaus and this year they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage. Her working life began as a local fish market clerk and was later hired as an accountant by L. Hollander & Co Meat Company, John Zidian Company, Advanced Auto Parts, Mahoning County Children’s Services, and Youngstown Hearing and Speech, from where she retreated. Additionally, she was the corporate manager of Four Seasons Pest Control, the company that she and her husband began supporting their family during the financially difficult 1980s.
JoAnn has often fondly recalled the times she spent volunteering at St. Nicholas Elementary School and Cardinal Mooney High School, where all her children attended and where she befriended.
JoAnn understood the true gift of friendship – maintaining relationships from childhood and bringing new friends into the fold throughout her life – always enriching those around her.
His legacy is his family for which his love and support were unconditional. She encouraged her four children and eight grandchildren to reach for the stars, always celebrating their successes but most importantly, she was always there with support for any setbacks or challenges that might arise. Certainly, her husband, her children, and her grandchildren will miss her attentive ear, wise advice, positive reinforcement, acceptance of nature, and excellent cooking skills.
JoAnn loved sports and especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in their baseball, wrestling, basketball, soccer, football, skiing and cross country activities. She was an avid Cleveland Indians / Guardians and Notre Dame football fan, she hardly ever lost a game, even when she wasn’t feeling well. She was also a nice supporter of the Cleveland Browns and she recently discovered a love for professional basketball. We are confident that you have pitchside seats for the NBA Finals.
She will miss her husband, Nick very much; her daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Studnicha and Jackie (Jason) Scharff; children, Nicholas (Alicia) Veauthier and Brian (Bridget) Veauthier; her grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, Aidan, Samantha, Eleanor, Julia, Jackson and Nick; as well as many grandchildren, grandchildren and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Helen Janci; her and her two brothers, Michael “Mickey” and Richard “Dick” Janci.
The family entrusted JoAnn’s care at the Kubina Yuhasz Wasko Funeral Home, where they will receive friends and family from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 10:15 am, at the funeral home, before a Christian burial Mass which will begin on Thursday at 11 am at the Parish of San Carlo Borromeo. She will be buried in the Calvary cemetery.
