Gradually, the Bears returned to health.
At least I’m in the field practicing. It doesn’t mean they’ll all be ready for Sunday’s debut against the San Francisco 49ers, but at least almost everyone has a chance to play.
For the first time since the beginning of August, on Monday, wide receiver Byron Pringle took part in practice and was joined by wide receiver Velus Jones Jr., who had been out for two weeks. Pringle had a quadriceps injury and Jones’s injury was not specified.
Although their participation is limited at the moment, they are as close to 100% health to the catcher as possible until N’Keal Harry rolls off the injury reserve in October.
The first official report on the injury comes out on Wednesday evening.
They also brought back center Lucas Patrick for his first training session since July. He had come out with a broken thumb which required surgery.
“A lot of the guys are back and they’re really fine, they look healthy and move around and we’re evaluating that as we go,” said Bears manager Matt Eberflus.
The receivers that were missing appear to be the biggest challenge, especially Pringle as his absence was so long. However, he had the advantage of working in OTAs and minicamps with quarterback Justin Fields to reduce passing times.
“I’ve said it from the start, it hurts when you’re not on the grass and you don’t have that timing with each other, with the quarterback and the other guys running a street with you,” Eberflus said. “I think it will take a lot of work before him to do it. And I think he will be able to do it.”
Pringle, the former Chiefs receiver that the Bears signed into free agency, seemed to think he would cancel the game plan with no problems.
“Oh man, it’s just about that breathing, that playing condition, being in game form, just knowing how to breathe and knowing how to play four quarter strength,” Pringle said.

Pringle admitted he made a mistake in the recovery. He initially didn’t tell the Bears about the injury and tried to exercise after injuring him during training.
“I actually messed everything up in that individual period, but I stayed,” he said. “I tried to train all the way. It’s just that free agent mentality that I have, I can’t get out (of training) when you’re injured, so I trained three days after the injury. And then I just got an MRI and after the results, I got injured. “
It wasn’t the smartest thing to do.
“Yeah, I’m a tough guy, so I know they didn’t want the setback,” Pringle said. “I didn’t do it either because I wanted to go out in the preseason and show what I could do on the pitch. It was just one of the things I had to communicate to the team.”
Pringle tried to keep up with the changes in the attack as the field progressed.
“Since I was out, I’ve been trying to just listen to the coaching points, the communication on the pitch, how (when) they’re giving it to the other guys,” Pringle said. “Just knowing that I’m not trying to be one step behind when I get back on the pitch, so I paid attention in the boardroom and listened to everything (offensive coordinator (Luke) Getsy trained and indicates that Justin was telling the boys.”
With Patrick, the Bears must make a decision. He’s playing with a cast and it’s possible he’ll force them to move him on guard for at least a little while until they can be sure his thumb is fine for the season.
“It could, yes,” Eberflus said. “We will have to see where it is and evaluate it as we go. It will be a Wednesday / Thursday evaluation and then we will go from there.”
This could mean that Teven Jenkins is ejected from the formation on the right guard if Patrick comes back and immediately intervenes on the guard with Sam Mustipher in the center.
